Elizabethtown sits on the west bank of the Cape Fear River at 118 ft, covering 5.07 sq mi in Bladen County. It was chartered in 1773 on a 100-acre tract from Isaac Jones and incorporated in 1895, and the country around it is lake and forest: Jones Lake State Park 4 miles north, Singletary Lake 9 miles southeast, and the 33,450 acres of Bladen Lakes State Forest. Fayetteville Well Pump Repair services private wells across Elizabethtown and Bladen County.
We handle pump repair and replacement, pressure tank and switch work, water testing, treatment and filtration, casing and wellhead repair, and new drilling in Elizabethtown. Properties out toward the lakes and the state forest are on private supply without exception, and the distances involved are part of the job, so we schedule rural Bladen work in blocks rather than as individual callouts wherever that is possible.
River and lake country means a high water table and slow-draining ground, and both matter at the wellhead rather than downhole. Surface water that sits rather than sheds finds any route into the annular space, which is why casing stick-up against the required 12 in is the first measurement we take here. A well that tests clean in August and positive in March is usually reporting that route rather than a change in the aquifer.
Bladen County is one of the six counties covered by the Chemours private well sampling program under the 2019 Consent Order between NC DEQ, Cape Fear River Watch and Chemours, so PFAS comes up in conversation here. It is worth keeping separate from a bacteria result, because a chemistry finding is addressed by a treatment stage and a coliform hit after rain is usually addressed by a repair. Water testing tells you which you are dealing with.

What a job costs in Elizabethtown
A typical Elizabethtown job: lakeside property with coliform positives every spring, previously managed with annual chlorination. The casing was found at grade with ground falling toward it. Raising the stick-up, replacing the cap and regrading around the wellhead ended a pattern that four years of chlorine had not.
| What the job is | Typical range | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| External component: pressure switch, control box, wiring, primingThe pump itself is fine. Cheapest outcome and the most common one. | $150 – $500 | installed |
| Pressure tank replacementTank, tank tee, gauge, switch and fittings, sized on drawdown. A waterlogged tank is what makes a pump short-cycle. | $1,000 – $2,300 | installed |
| Shallow well or jet pump, to about 25 ftCommon on Coastal Plain sand wells, where the water table sits high enough that a jet pump still works. | $600 – $1,400 | installed |
| Deep submersible pump, well 100 to 200 ftTypical Fayetteville well depth. Price covers pulling the old pump, drop pipe and wire. | $1,500 – $2,500 | installed |
| Deep submersible pump, well 300 to 400 ft or higher horsepowerDepth drives horsepower and hoist labor together. Every extra 100 ft adds roughly $500 to $1,000 in pipe, wire and time. | $2,800 – $5,500 | installed |
| Full system replacement: pump, tank, wiringWorth doing together when the pump is original and the tank is the same age. | $3,500 – $6,000 | installed |
What moves the number
- Every additional 100 ft of well depth+$500 to $1,000
- Emergency, weekend or after-hours call+25% to 50%

Well questions from Elizabethtown
Is a well near a lake less safe?
Not inherently, but the margin is smaller. The barrier between surface water and the aquifer is the casing and the grout rather than any depth of soil, so a gap in either shows up sooner on low ground near standing water.
Why do I get bacteria hits every spring?
Because a route into the well only carries water when there is enough of it. A cracked cap, a casing at grade or grouting taken short at construction all produce positives after heavy rain and clean results in between.
Is Bladen County covered by the PFAS sampling program?
Yes. Bladen is one of six counties in the Chemours sampling area alongside Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Robeson and Sampson. Sampling is paid for by Chemours under the 2019 Consent Order and residents request it on (910) 678-1101.
Do you cover Bladen County?
Yes. Elizabethtown is inside our service area, and new well permitting there goes through the Bladen County health department rather than through Cumberland.
