Well work around Dunn picked up a question in 2025 that it did not have before. NC DEQ records the Chemours private well sampling program expanding into portions of Harnett County in March of that year, so Fayetteville Well Pump Repair now gets asked about PFAS on this side of the county line as routinely as we do in Grays Creek. Dunn covers 6.98 sq mi at 207 ft in eastern Harnett, and most property outside the town center runs on a private well.
We handle pump repair and replacement, pressure tank and switch work, water testing, treatment and filtration, casing and wellhead repair, and new drilling across Dunn and eastern Harnett County. On the testing side we now spend real time separating two different questions, because a household that has heard about PFAS and a household with a bacteria problem need different equipment and frequently think they need the same thing.
The thresholds decide what follows a sample. At or above the EPA lifetime health advisory of 10 ppt for GenX, an address qualifies for granular activated carbon, reverse osmosis or a municipal connection at Chemours' expense. Combined PFAS at or above 70 ppt, or any single PFAS compound at or above 10 ppt, qualifies for under-sink reverse osmosis. Those are the numbers the program responds to, which is why we point people at the sampling route before quoting any treatment of our own.
None of that changes the mechanical side. Dunn began as a logging and turpentine town on the railway between Wilson and Fayetteville, and the wells around it span a century of construction, so what fails is still pumps, tanks, switches and wellheads rather than chemistry. A pressure problem here is almost always a settings and storage fault, and it gets diagnosed the same way it would in Erwin or Lillington.

What a job costs in Dunn
A typical Dunn job: iron staining on laundry and an owner also asking about PFAS after seeing coverage of the program expansion. Iron treatment was quoted on the panel result. The PFAS question went to the sampling line at no cost, because a filter sized for iron does nothing about PFAS and pretending otherwise would have sold the wrong equipment twice.
| What the job is | Typical range | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| External component: pressure switch, control box, wiring, primingThe pump itself is fine. Cheapest outcome and the most common one. | $150 – $500 | installed |
| Pressure tank replacementTank, tank tee, gauge, switch and fittings, sized on drawdown. A waterlogged tank is what makes a pump short-cycle. | $1,000 – $2,300 | installed |
| Shallow well or jet pump, to about 25 ftCommon on Coastal Plain sand wells, where the water table sits high enough that a jet pump still works. | $600 – $1,400 | installed |
| Deep submersible pump, well 100 to 200 ftTypical Fayetteville well depth. Price covers pulling the old pump, drop pipe and wire. | $1,500 – $2,500 | installed |
| Deep submersible pump, well 300 to 400 ft or higher horsepowerDepth drives horsepower and hoist labor together. Every extra 100 ft adds roughly $500 to $1,000 in pipe, wire and time. | $2,800 – $5,500 | installed |
| Full system replacement: pump, tank, wiringWorth doing together when the pump is original and the tank is the same age. | $3,500 – $6,000 | installed |
What moves the number
- Every additional 100 ft of well depth+$500 to $1,000
- Emergency, weekend or after-hours call+25% to 50%

Well questions from Dunn
Is my well near Dunn covered by the Chemours sampling program?
Portions of Harnett County were added in March 2025, which means coverage depends on the address rather than on the county. Call the sampling line on (910) 678-1101 to find out whether yours is inside the area.
What does PFAS sampling cost?
Nothing to the well owner where the address is covered. Sampling is funded by Chemours under the 2019 Consent Order with NC DEQ and Cape Fear River Watch, and initial treatment for qualifying results is funded the same way.
Will my iron filter remove PFAS?
No. Iron and sediment media do not remove PFAS at all. Removal needs granular activated carbon or reverse osmosis, which the Consent Order requires Chemours to supply at or above 10 ppt of GenX.
Do you service wells around Dunn?
Yes. Dunn, Erwin and Lillington are inside our Harnett County service area, covering pumps, pressure tanks, casing work and conventional water treatment for iron, hardness and pH.
